FreeRTOS 8.0.0 for PSoC 4 (Pioneer kit) using ARM MDK compiler

These example projects are designed to run on the CY8CKIT-042 (PSoC 4 Pioneer Kit) from Cypress Semiconductor. A full description of the kit, along with more example programs and ordering information, can be found at http://www.cypress.com/cy8ckit-042.

This kit is a development platform for the PSoC 4 family of devices. It includes a CY8C4245AXI-483 part with 32kB on-chip flash memory and 4kB SRAM. The kit hardware provides the following features.

• Arduino™ shield-compatible headers
• Digilent® Pmod™ peripheral module header
• 5-element CapSense™ slider
• RGB LED
• Power and status LEDs
• Reset and user push-button switches
• Multiple power supply options: JTAG/SWD header, USB, external power via LDO, or Arduino shield
• 3.3V or 5.0V operation (jumper)
• JTAG/SWD debug connector 10 pin 0.1”
• On-board PSoC 5LP for serial I/O (I2C or UART) bridge to PC

To build/program/modfy the attached examples, use the free PSoC Creator 3.0 software IDE (http://www.cypress.com/psoccreator).

In this package the Microcontroller Developers Kit (MDK) compiler from ARM Ltd. is used to build all projects. This compiler not included in the PSoC Creator product but is available for download at https://www.keil.com/demo/eval/arm.htm

To explore the applications in PSoC Creator open the workspace file “CY8CKIT-042-MDK.cywsp” . This workspace includes the following projects.

• Demo.cyprj
• NewDesign.cyprj

Programming/debugging is provided through either the on-board USB connector J10 or the Cypress MiniProg3 debug adapter (not provided in the CY8CKIT-042 kit) on header J6.

  Oops. I made a typo in the User Guide that could cause confusion. I wrote that the workspace files to open in PSoC Creator were “CY8CKIT-042-GCC.cywsp” or “CY8CKIT-042-MDK.cywsp”. The right extension for workspace files in CYWRK, not CYWSP. I would not want anyone hunting through all the directories looking for a file that is not there!

  Hi Mark,

  Is it possible to port this FreeRTOS to the PSoC 4 prototyping kit? It has the same MCU CY8C4245AXI-483... 

  If yes, what are the changes that I need to make?

  If no, is there a separate version of FreeRTOS for the prototyping kit? Please provide me one in that case.

  Yes, that's definitely possible. You just need to change the example into a bootloadable project.

  From the main Project menu, select Build Settings. In the dialog, find Code Settings and the Application Type option. Use the pull-down to choose "Bootloadable".

  In the System tab of the Component Catalog, find the Bootloadable component. Add it to your TopDesign and configure it to work with your bootloader project. Here is a screenshot of my configuration.

  Assuming you used the Demo project, when you build and download the project the blue LED will glow quite dimly because it is being driven by a PWM. You can vary that brightness by running your finger along the pin-holes on the top of the kit.

  Hi Mark,

  It did work on my prototyping kit as well! Thanks for the response. 

  However neither could I notice the dimness of the LED so much nor did I understand how running finger on the pin holes will brighten them up.
