I have modified the repository posted by Don Stevenson title "Xilinx Zynq FreeRTOS and lwIP demo (XAPP1026) Vivado 2014.2".The lwIP apps are a simple HTTP screen, an echo app (use telnet) and Tx and Rx performance testing. This port was tested on a Zedboard.
In order to make compatible the previous repository were modified the tcl scripts of the application examples.

I have tried this for Vivado 2016.2, but it's not working unfortunately. Have you tried to make changes for 2016.2?

Unfortunately I don't have the Vivado 2016.2. In my experiences is only matter of modify the tcl scripts. My suggestion is to compare the tcl scripts with the application included in the Vivado. Check the path for vivado 2016.2 similar to this C:\Xilinx\SDK\2016.1\data\embeddedsw\lib\sw_apps\freertos_lwip_echo_server\data\freertos_lwip_echo_server.tcl
Try to find some differences with the tcl of the repository of the XAPP1026 application note.
Hey Raul, thanks for your answer.I solved the problem by using freertos823_xilinx bsp that is located in Vivado default repository. So, unfortunately I am not 100% whether your modifications actually do work for Vivado 2016.2.

This port was very timely as I needed to go from 2014.4 to 2016.1 in short order.

I did not make performance benchmark, I used it regularly for my applications but for that a regular performance is ok.
Regarding to your question about ARTIX-7, the repository is related to Zynq devices, probably you need to test it with a microblaze soft processor.
